Oscars 2021 *fingers crossed*

''They're Here'' said the little girl in Tobe Hooper's horror cult classic Poltergeist (1982). Yes dears! The Oscars are here and near, time to make some popcorn and pop the champagne because the official Instagram account of the Academy Awards have just announced they're shortlist for 9 categories :  - Best Documentary - Best Documentary (Short)  - Best Makeup and Hairstyling - Best live-action short - Best animated short  - Best Foreign Language film - Best Original Score - Best Original Song - Best Visual Effect Now, I believe that for some of these categories, the fight is already over. For best foreign language film, the award will go to Another Round (Denmark), it is the Parasite (2019), or the Roma (2018) if you prefer, of the year. Sadly, poor old Canada didn't even make the cut this award season with 14 days 12 nights by Jean-Philippe Duval, wich I was invited to the premier in February 2020 (you know, before everything went apocalyptic) and...

Festival Fantasia 2020: Feels Good Man

Image
If someone ever told me that a cartoon frog would strongly influence one of the most important presidential election ever, I would of said '' Florida '' in a very sarcastic way.  Well, it happened. Pepe the frog happened and this movie will tell you how everything went down. Feels Good Man is a fresh documentary where we follow Matt Furie, creator of the comic-book ''Boy's Club'' and Pepe the frog, as he tells us from A to Z how his own little creation started from being so innocent to now being one of the biggest symbol of white supremacy groups . To start, I'm not on 4Chan. A friend of mine is just crazy about it so he knew the story of Pepe and the willingness of controlling the election to put a real life meme in the White House. Unlike me who had no idea, this entire film was jaw-dropping.

Festival Fantasia 2020 : Detention

Video games movies in general never quite succeed to make an actual film that takes the charm and the elements loved by fans and use it properly so that the finished result embodies the the original product. Let's take some exemple to prove that point : Super Mario Bros. (1993), Mortal Kombat (1995), Street Fighter (1994), House of the Dead (2003), Hitman (2007), Far Cry (2008), Max Payne (2008), Assassin's Creed (2016), Rampage (2018). Just to name a few of course because I could of added so many more, and I'm not even counting all of the sequels, prequels, shequels and every single following that studios loves to fart out only to use it as cash grabs.  BUT! Detention (2019), John Hsu new video game inspired movie. I say ''inspired'' because after watching only 15 minutes of actual gameplay on Youtube, I can easily say that the differences between the movie and the game are extremely embarrassing. The first big difference between the two is that...

Mucho Mucho Amor!

Image
Hi everyone! Long time no see (even if we can't literally see each other)😅! So tonight, I have decided to talk to you about the new Netflix documentary, Mucho Mucho Amor! (2020) Now before I start getting deeper, I have to say that the only reference to Walter Mercado I had was from Alexis Mateo's snatch game pick on All Stars 5 (wich was fabulous by the way). Ironically, the movie came out a few days after the snatch game episode played on television, couldn't there be a better timing? So Mucho Mucho Amor! the new Kareem Tabsch and Cristina Costantini film, paints a beautiful portrait of Walter Mercado's life, growing up in Puerto Rico, his early career as a Telenovela actor, his fame to present time.  Now for anyone who dosen't know who Walter Mercado his, well first of all, Google him, he's fantastic. Secondly, he's a BIG name in Spanish speaking countries, like he's a massive legend. Walter Mercado is a famously known for being this positively fabu...

Welp....This train D-Railed

Image
Yesterday night, I was hesitating between watching Claire Denis's High Life (2018) or Steven Knight's Serenity (2019), instead I stumbled into Amazon Prime Video 's dark spot and found this movie, D-Railed (2018) directed by Dale Fabrigar who directed a total of five other very poorly rated films on Letterboxd. As terrible as this movie was, I cannot say that I didn't enjoy myself watching it. You see, like I was saying to my friend last night a few moments after the film ended, every bad movies have something that good movies don't. First of all, well.... It's logic, once you annihilate every hint of intelligence and coherence, you are left with a wonderful mess. In this movie per example, our characters know that a man eating monster is waiting for them beneath the surface of the river they crashed into. Well, more than half of them managed to die in about 2 minutes because their only ''good'' plan was to panic and jump in the wate...
