Oscars 2021 *fingers crossed*
''They're Here'' said the little girl in Tobe Hooper's horror cult classic Poltergeist (1982).
Yes dears! The Oscars are here and near, time to make some popcorn and pop the champagne because the official Instagram account of the Academy Awards have just announced they're shortlist for 9 categories :
- Best Documentary
- Best Documentary (Short)
- Best Makeup and Hairstyling
- Best live-action short
- Best animated short
- Best Foreign Language film
- Best Original Score
- Best Original Song
- Best Visual Effect
Now, I believe that for some of these categories, the fight is already over. For best foreign language film, the award will go to Another Round (Denmark), it is the Parasite (2019), or the Roma (2018) if you prefer, of the year. Sadly, poor old Canada didn't even make the cut this award season with 14 days 12 nights by Jean-Philippe Duval, wich I was invited to the premier in February 2020 (you know, before everything went apocalyptic) and I have to say that I was gladly surprised by it. It's nothing spectacular technically but it reminded me of a hot soup on a cold blizzard day, comforting.
I was shocked, and I do mean absolutely flabbergasted, to see Bloodshot in the shortlist for best visual effect. I saw this film the day they reopened movie theatres and I don't know if it was because I was in desperate need to go to the movies but I didn't mind it. It is terrible don't get me wrong, it's an awful film, first of all Vin Diesel can't speak (act as well), he just grunts and show off his muscles (not the one on his face clearly) and nobody asked for a new Arnold Schwarzenegger. Plus the CGI effects are on the same level as the Cats movie wich was a fever nightmare to watch.
Finally my predictions? The Trial of the Chicago 7 will win best picture, Regina King will win for best director, Chadwick Boseman for best actor, Amanda Seyfried for best supporting actress and I will win a headache.
Bye Bye! xxx
